Re: Deader in the Bahamas/Is Nassau getting that dangerous?

When we were there 2-3 years ago we spent 2 weeks before the Exumas there, and then a week and a half on our way back north there (prepping for our passage to Charleston).

We had a wonderful time, met a lot of locals and other cruisers and rarely felt unsafe. We were told that 98% of the crime that occurs is local on local. Yes, every store was locked and you had to be buzzed in. Yes, there were security guards everywhere.

But... the people we met were great, Potter's Cay and Fish Fry were good fun and the Nassau Harbor club was a nice place to stay (especially with the Dairy Queen and liquor store across the street). When we go cruising again, we'll definitely be spending some time in Nassau. It would be like skipping New York City because people get mugged and murdered.
