alternative to step down butt conectors

Hello all

I have single power and ground wires running forward to my pulpit mounted navigation lights. Each light has a single ground and hot wire running from each. So I need to connect two hot wires(one from each light) to a single hot wire running back to the panel(same for the ground wire). I am using step down butt connector but find it awkward to get a good crimp. Are there any alternatives? Do I just need more practice with the crimping tool? The step down butt connector is marine grade and the right size for the wire being crimped. The crimping tool, while not a klien grade tool, works great when crimping standard butt connectors.

thanks,
John
