I don't believe there's a 'good' or 'bad' time to buy. I think it's all about finding 'the' boat with a motivated seller, or at least an honest, open one. Unfortunately the ratio of bad to good viewings is generally high. Probably the better situation to find is one where a fastidious owner has 'moved up' and now has a good example that he/she really needs to sell. However these examples probably move quickly, esp compared to the very common situation you ran into just now.
