The Garmin units are pretty good... I use a 192C on my boat. The 498C has the coastal charts built in to the ROM. If your boat has a solid hull, you may be able to mount the transducer internally, using an oil-filled mount, and not drill any holes through the hull. Standard through hull or an internal oil-mount are preferable to a transom mount generally. They're more reliable and less subject to damage and other problems.

Defender.com and pyatch.net generally have pretty good prices on electronics.
