When you sell a house or a car you are requrired disclose any significant damage/repair done while you owned the house, car or boat. Does the same thing apply to boats or is it simply a case of "let the buyer beware"? Is there any boat equivalent to a CARFAX?
I find that the best policy is to ASK THE SELLER if they know of any significant issues, damage or repairs done to the home, car or boat. I have sold several motorcycles, and volunteered the information. All of the buyers were happy after the sale.
I had also sold my 2000 Audi (which was a total POS) and provided the new owner with a detailed spreadsheet on the repairs that I had done, but did not tell him that it cost me an average of $2700/year to maintain for the past 6 years. The seller never asked. I will NEVER
buy another Audi.
