This is from memory, as it's been a few years. I recall The route/channel between between the Abermarle and Pamlico being pretty shallow and tricky. I believe it's called Roanoke channel. There were single pole channel markers, so you have to keep them lined up fore and aft. This is important since there's current and you can get pushed sideways.

Likewise the channel into Ocracoke Is. itself. I was tempted to cut the corner, until I looked at the chart. I followed the ferry in from the outer mark.

Check the most recent charts, Active Captain and get local knowledge whenever you can.
