Re: sailing with CB up?

Is it a straight up and down CB or does it pivot down? I often took my Hunter 26 out without pivoting the keel down (if not racing or there were light winds). What the keel does is allow you to sail into the wind by keeping you from sliding sideways (I'm sure someone can explain it more technically, but I reckon you get the drift (pun intended)). So if you have a straight up and down CB, you'll need at least part of it down to go upwind.
