Installing an outboard

I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I did a few searches and didn't come up with much so I thought I would ask. So I have an Evinrude 9.9 (old) and just bought a Yamaha 4 stroke 6hp. I plan to replace this weekend on a 27' boat in the water and I'm wonder what advice people give for managing the mounting on over the water. Unfortunately the mount is off to the side of the boat and not the easiest to get over the back to so I am guessing tie a rope incase I drop the engine. It's a 1971 Ercison which had an inboard but removed so everything is a bit awkward about the outboard motor.

Any advice on how procedure people use for swapping motors would be much appreciated.
