one common fix is to mix sand into the epoxy and spread over the worn areas. When that also wears down you mix up a bit more epoxy and sand and reapply.
I like that idea.
Sort of like an ablative paint.
The lesson from the Icarus story is not about human failing.
It is a lesson about the limitations of wax as an adhesive.
If you have an engineering problem solve it.
