Re: Roller Furling Staysail on Sloop

We have a cutter rigged sloop, roller furling staysail. The advantage, on our boat at least, is that when the wind kicks up too high for our RF genoa we just "shift gears" and run with the staysail and reefed main. That is the main advantage, to be able to adjust sail for varying conditions and not using a furled genoa in stronger winds instead of dropping it and raising a jib. Having the RF staysail will make tacking more difficult for you, if you intend to race at all I would take it down. The way we tack is to leave the staysail sheeted as we come around and let the gennie slide over the staysail and through the slot. Once the gennie is through we release the staysail sheet.
