I have a 17ft MacGregor Venture. It didn't come with a rudder. I have been looking on line and at salvage yards. The deal is I refuse to pay more for the rudder than the boat. I am faily handy... Does anyone know where I could get the demensions of the rudder I need/plans?
Check with the Venture/Mac owners groups. When I had my V 2-22, I remember there being a rudder available for not much money (a few hundred dollars comes to mind). I just don't know anymore where to buy it. There was an online vendor that sold Mac parts. I ended up making my own by copying the one (wood) that came with the boat.
Have you been checking salvage yards in the NJ/NY area? I'd bet there are some 17's that got damaged in Hurricane Sandy.
Donna's suggestion is a good one - some of the folks at the owner's group might even be owners with boats damaged in the storm. And if not, many times they'll send you info and pictures of their boats.
Thank you Donna, I went to the MacGregor owners website and a guy was parting out a Venture 17. He is going to mail the parts. You saved me a bunch of time and $$.. Really appreciate your help!
