I would have a much bigger issue with dock lines on shrouds, which are not b built for those kind of loads, than on winches, which are.
I agree with the shrouds. However, winches are designed to take a load from a specific direction on a narrow plane. In fact, they usually must be angled, if the load is not going to be within that plane.
I suspect the shear strength of a winch works 99% of the time as a bollard, but not what they were designed to do and an extraordinarily expensive experiment.
