At my club most all the larger boats are on moorings and I've done fairly well with the pick up stick and matching speed to current UNLESS it's windy or churned up. But I've done this dozens maybe hundreds of times and every time it is PRACTICE

It's actually easier to do solo or until I teach a friend.

I've gotta try that! (with a line to bow to the stern for pick up) should work.. the mooring chain would be upstream of the ball and stick. if the boat missed it would move downstream and not tangle.
