Although new to this msg board, I noticed and I appreciate your thought-out, thorough replies.

This was the kind of information I was expecting. I was reading the excellent Nigel Calder´s book on cruising which provides a lot of good recommendations about the essential features for a good cruising boat, and weak spots of existing ones. One path mentioned is to get a cheap but reliable structure and retrofit thouroughly.
