Re: picking up a mooring single handed
A big stainless shepherds hook made out of solid 3/4 inch stainless shaft makes hooking the mooring and getting the boat stopped much easier. You keep it tight till the boat is stopped then run your permanent line thru and take the hook out. Easier done from the cockpit. A halyard snap shackle is quicker to snap than a turn around a cleat, and thus less likely to get away on you..
