Check the book "The cruising Guide to Central & Southern California" by Brian Fagan for a detailed description of the route. You need good weather and a well found boat, it's uphill all the way and the best option is sometimes to motor around Pt. Conception in the still of the night. It's doable, gotta be the right boat & a loose time frame to allow for weather.
