Donít forget that lots of us of a certain age learned to drive on large, heavy rear wheel drive cars with no power steering, no power brakes and a manual column shifter! All in all much harder to drive than todayís F series truck! I say that from having owned a 1960 Impala as described and a 2002 F-350 with a 7.3 diesel.
To the OP, a 30 foot boat is not BIG. My first boat was 30í and a year later I was in a 42 with hank-on sails. My first sail on the 42 was when I delivered it 125 miles from Boothbay, ME to Winthrop, MA with some non sailing friends as crew.
None of this is rocket science and with the information available today you should be fine.
