Our little Honda 4s 2hp pushed the boat better than I ever thought it would (A-30). I could make a couple of knots (I dunno, 2-4 maybe?) in a headwind of 15 knots or so (on the Bay, including wakes and chop).
It was more than enough for a backup (of which we had none, other than sails). Some sort of side mounted swing arm set up ala' Yves Gelinas could work? It'd be easy to design for such a light motor. I could design one for you if you were interested.
