What is a "regular" compressor? There are oil-lubricated compressors and there are oilless compressors. Both can be used in a hookah rig, although you would need to use a special oil in an oil-lubricated model (and honestly, at the recreational & light commercial level, I don't know why anybody would attempt it.) There is nothing "special" about the compressors used in hookahs. Every commercially available, recreational level hookah is built around an air compressor that was originally designed for another purpose.
