Mike:
Time to bite the bullet and fly both main and jib AT THE SAME TIME.
You should be able to sail out of your marina, it's a dinghy.

When you tack, just throw off the jib and let it flap while you tack. Once the tack is completed and you are settled down on the new tack sheet the jib in.

You will find that having the jib up along with the main will give you a huge performance boost.
