Holy crap Knut... that is one confusing bit of lighting. Looks like a disco.

David,

Red sectors (in the US) do in fact show a hazard to navigation. However, what that hazard is a hazard to and when will depend on the vessel.

A small sailing vessel may, might, could, possibly, or maybe not, never, couldn't, impossible, sail in the red zone, or not.

That's why you have the chart, the light list, chart #1, and of course, your sextant
