I think I'm about done here. I think I'm going to sell my boat like I said I woild at the beginning. However I am open to alternatives storage options. Since I don't live in Washigton.
I love the boat. But it's better off with someone instead of just sitting waiting for me for next may. I would worry about it too much. Still. I'm open to ideas.
Otherwise. Where should I take it to sell in Washigton so it sells the quickest? It is a ranger 23. Probably the nicest small boat you see. Well...9 out of 10 small boats. This is the nicest. Doesn't need anything. Ready to sail.
I accomplished what I set out to do and had more fun and stretched it out over a month longer than I planned. I'm going to miss it up here actually. But it's best to go while its still sunny everyday. I should remember it like this.
So I need to find a place to anchor to list the boat on craigslist. I think closer to seattle is better. I was thinking poulsbo but if you think it would sell in friday harbor I can do that too. Anywhere really.
Anyone have an idea how small boats are selling these days? I figure someone the weekend after this one is going to be looking for a boat and why would t they buy mine?
Tips are appreciated. Have t sold too many boats. Would prefer to do it quick. What should I include that will help it sell and would not just be giving away. I have it set up as a mini cruiser with dinghy, charts, books. But if it doesnt help sell or the value I will just take it with me. I was thinking probably just the boat right?
I kept a small boat just inside the Ballard Locks close to Fisherman's Terminal. Back then the rent was 60 bucks a month. Safe and Secure, easy for folks to come look at. The Ranger would be a good day sailor on Lake Union, lot's of yuppies living in Freelard who will have the change to buy your boat. Get in on the remaining Wednesday night "duck dodge" races on Lake Union, might generate some interest there. Good luck! Ballard Mill Marina might have a spot for you......
Somewhere within an hour of seattle along the i5 corridor. Requiring buyers to hop on a ferry will greatly reduce the number of people who will give it a look.
Make a good ad with high quality photos and a good price and it should sell pretty quickly.
I think there is an available non live a board slip where you met me to buy that anchor, I can get you contact info. Its about the cheapest slip on lake union.
I'm not sailed out per se. I did start at the tail end of march and have had two to three months nonstop as of today. All told I think it's been almost five months. Lets see. I ought it march 25 an took two week long trips to Oregon. Other than that. Also I thought I shoul sell it before its fall so that it sells.
Alex. I would like that info please. As of right now I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to sail around the San Juan's this week and think about it.
How often would I need to check on my boat I it was tied up over winter? Does much damage occur if you leave a boat sit for months? I clean this thing twice weekly, lol. If hate to come back and hve it destroyed. And at the same time I'm obviously not a millionaire yacht owner that could have someone buffing it weekly in my absence.

Ok, so you had your fun. Price it to sell quickly. How much is it gonna cost to moor, care and look after it while your away? Pass on some goodwill to another aspiring adventurer. Maybe there is a guy around that was just like you a few months ago? Your probably not talking about a lot of money either in the big picture of things. You have a good story, worth more then money....
Northoceanbeach... I'm looking for a pocket cruiser & was directed to your query. Live in Port Angeles WA. Would like more details about ur Ranger 23, location, condition, equipment, price, etc. Photos? Any info that's relevant. U can send private message if u don't want to share details on general forum.
Thank you!
shadowfox, you don't have enough posts nor time in the forum to receive a PM. If you have an email address, that would be better if you don't want to wait.
Thanks. What do you think? I think I should take better pictures. Close ups. It seems like I put pictures more to show off my trip than pictures to sell a boat! I need some way to show how its clean and nicer than the others, but I don't have the pictures taken.
I have not seen your listing, but when I was looking I was more interested in seeing what the boat looked like than where it had been. If you can get pics of its condition, that's a plus.
A photo or two showing the boat flying sails on the water is very nice. It is nicest if these were taken from another boat, do you have any friends who took such shots on your trip?
The bulk of the photos should show the condition and interior. Your photos are primarily distance shots which make it hard to see what has been done to the boat. The ad says that it has cushions from 1997, new running rigging hardware, and those should be shown.
If you have any photos from the haul out they should be included as well.
Craigslist limits you to a small number of low resolution photos. The best way to do this is to put up a few of those that shows how clean the boat is, then link to an externally hosted gallery that has detail shots of just about everything.
Hopefully you are getting some interest. Being in Friday Harbor does make it hard for Seattle-area buyers to take a look. It is a long day to get to Friday Harbor and back to look at a boat, and costs close to $100 in fuel and ferry fees in an average car.
Aha. That is my project for today. Good advice. Thanks. I'm making my way south so I just thought I would start the listing while I'm in friday harbor. Just in case. I don't expect much, but I would expect even less if it wasn't listed at all. I forget how much gas an ferry fees cost these days. $100. Not good. I wouldn't spend it on a boat that may be something you look at for 1 minute and write off.
Liberty bay here I come. We're sure there is nowhere to anchor in Seattle right? On one of the lakes? Or what is this eagle harbor?
The ferries to the San Juan Islands are about $60 round trip. You can look it up. It is about 100 mile drive each way, so $30-$40 in fuel for the average car.
You can anchor in Eagle Harbor or Liberty Bay. Eagle Harbor is a lot easier for a Seattle resident to check out a boat in, they can take the ferry and walk on. It is about a mile walk from the ferry to the harbor, and there is a public dock there where you could meet them.
I've heard of people anchoring near the locks and Shilshole Marina (south side of the channel, near the N"10" buoy), but I've never done it myself. There are some mooring balls there and it can get very shallow.
There is anchorage near Seaward Park in Seattle on Lake Washington in Andrew's Bay. It's about 2-3 hours to get there from the locks. It's a very pretty area, but not much nearby except for houses. Not a bad place to spend a couple of days.
There is no anchoring anywhere on Lake Union without an event permit unless it is the 4th of July.
There is very nice anchorage at the north end of Bainbridge Island in Port Madison, but it would be hard for someone to meet you there. It is about an hour crossing from there to Shilshole though, so you could list the boat as in Seattle and sail across to meet people on the X dock at Shilshole.
Good idea Alex. My iPhone camera sucks a bit since I neglected a case, but hey, it can't be perfect. I'm curious what those pictures look like on a big screen.
Maybe the lady in port Angeles will buy it Monday. That would make my life easy.
Those photos are a lot better. One facing backwards from the V-berth towards the companionway would be good. The rigging closeups are handy to see that there is newer hardware, but there are some near dups (like of I think is your main sheet).
Thanks! I appreciate the advice on the v berth picture, but since I keep my cushions covered with sheets to keep them nice, I had to pile some stuff back there and roll the sheets back. So I took the photos of the interior specifically avoiding that area.
I delivered the ranger to Sequim. Docked right across from another one.
