I knew a guy that tried to light his own car on fire in a club parking lot when we were kids, to collect insurance. He doused it in gasoline and somehow fashioned a lit cigarette so it would burn down and ignite the car, while he was inside. After an hour and no drama, he went outside to see it wasn't on fire, so he returned to try again.

However, someone had seen it and called the police who were in the shadows waiting to arrest him. Their plan worked the first time.
