jibsheets donot need to be long enough to hang the captain from the yardarms after a wrap around the winch. they need not even wrap around selves in cockpit on sole.

when my jib is in neutral/midships position, my jib sheets are same exact length and only as long as to the winch and cleat. no longer. when furled my sheets come only to the waist of the boat after 3 wraps on furler
