Now that is an idea that I never thought of.
I wouldn't want to tie a spring to a stanchion but but tying to the forward cleat then having a loop around the shrouds to keep it close to the boat is an interesting idea.
The lesson from the Icarus story is not about human failing.
It is a lesson about the limitations of wax as an adhesive.
If you have an engineering problem solve it.
