Could also be that Jeanneau/Beneteau have a much cheaper $$$ way of building interiors, being as they have machines that laser cut the plywood. along with putting on the varnish. Cutting out probably some MAJOR $$$ in labor that catalina has to do all by hand.

THere is a local granted a smaller power boat builder that was bought by a larger one. THe larger one put in some of the computer done milling etc, and saved over 40-50 hrs of labor on 15-20' basic fiberglass fishing boat. Who know what some stuff like this could do to a 30-50' sailboat!

Lead keels IIRC from a comparison, lead is about 7-10 times as expensive as iron is in a comparable wt. at .20 s $1-2 a lb.....lead adds up in cost too! not saying one is better than the other, but costs do add up!

Not saying that catalina is not worth the extra......just stating how it is possible to save some funds.
