I agree, that's a big job, but it might be worth it for that boat if she's in good condition. We did the rear seal as part of my engine work. If it was "just" the seal, and no transmission and other stuff, I think that would be a $4-5K job if a marina does it. Depending on how the engine room is laid out and which engine it is, that COULD be a DIY job for someone handy. It would take MANY hours, but it's do-able. The re-mounting of the engine and alignment is the big deal.
