I was told by a dealer in Deltaville, VA that Deltaville has the largest concentration of sailboats on the east coast. If you're not familiar with Deltaville, it's not near anywhere. It's about 2 hours outside Richmond, and 3.5-4 hours outside DC and Baltimore. It was almost 6 hours from Philly. I think that speaks to it probably being a pretty darn good place to sail.
I've lived in Ft. Lauderdale and Annapolis, and Ft. Lauderdale definitely has more sailboats, but there seemed to be a lot more people actually sailing in Annapolis.
