You're referring primarily to the popularity of the Disney PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise, I presume? What's so "hard to understand" about $3.7 billion in worldwide box office sales?

Seriously, you don't really believe Johnny Depp, or his fictional character Jack Sparrow, has served as an 'inspiration' for Somali or Nigerian piracy, do you?

On the other hand, perhaps they're all Paul Cayard wannabes? :-)
