Re: Lake St. Clair to Florida?

I know this is just a dream question, but start saving. You'll need a kitty just to repair the boat on the voyage. Happens.

When you ask about fastest, you have to define whether you have 24/7 capability. If you do, offshore south of NYC will be fastest, if you have the right weather.

Another consideration on the Erie Canal, other than unstepping at Buffalo and restepping the mast at Albany, is how it will get from Buffalo to Albany. Some rig a carrier on their deck, but it both makes the boat squirrely and hard to move around deck, as the mast is usually much longer than the boat. That's not necessarily ideal when you're negotiating locks with other traffic. When we did this, we had the mast trucked to the other end. Coordinating the cranes, riggers, marinas, trucks, etc, is a real battle plan. It will not just happen, because you're on a schedule. I recall getting out of bed one night at 10pm to get a couple of the players on the phone to kick the program back in place, as the trucker was debating timing with the marina.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
