Raymarine Linear Actuator Type 2S stopped working !
Stopped working with the message on the control head "DRIVE STOPPED"
I could feel the clutch engaging as the wheel would lock but it was no longer steering.
Got it out and took it apart expecting to find that the brushes were worn out. However the only thing wrong that I can see is that the bit that looks like a ram but I suspect contains some kind of lead screw was loose in the backplate. It screwed back in and now seems tight.
The motor runs but I have yet to try a full test in situ as I need someone smaller and more limber to refit it.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you stop it happening again. I am tempted to apply blue Locktite.
Also I have a related question on this. I have built similar actuators and always incorporated limit switches. I can see no limit switches so what happens at the end of the travel. Is it as crude as sensing a stalled drive motor?
