It's a do-able project.. we did it on our last boat, a 40 footer that only had the small deck hawse pass-through.

We glassed a floor in the forward compartment, added a drain hole through the side of the hull, then cut out the 'hatch' from the deck, reused that as the hatch after sealling all the edges (in deck and on hatch), added some cleats for the hatch to rest on, a pair of hinges and it was done. It was a vast improvement.

Be sure to provide for proper drainage of that area..

btw we didn't glass the bulkhead in, we added a single piece drop board iinside the compartment (on the fwd edge of the bulkhead) and another in the V berth area for 'looks'. With good drainage we never had water in the V berth from there. And we maintained access that way if needed...
