PSC 31 Mysterious Teak Box on Head Bulkhead?

We've recently purchased a Pacific Seacraft 31 and have not been able to figure out what the purpose of a large teak "box" is, on the ladder/engine side of the head shower compartment. It's approx. 2'X3' (haven't measured...) is fully enclosed wood with no access apparent from either side, top or bottom.
It's adjacent to the companionway. Any idea what's inside and why it got such a nice wood treatment....whatever it is???
Thanks! Jim

Thanks Adam, I appreciate the response. It looked to be just a cover/trim piece, but it's so elaborate looking. I couldn't visualize what the companionway molding must look like under that but couldn't. Figured it wasn't hiding anything too important as there wasn't any access.
