Re: Recommended Reading

Accepting your invitation to showcase my wares, I'm pleased to announce that the updated new 4th edition of my book THE ANNAPOLIS BOOK OF SEAMANSHIP will soon be available from Simon & Schuster.

Over one-third of the text is new or heavily revised -- electronics and radios for instance, and also the chapters on health, safety, heavy weather, and emergencies. We take account of new knowledge about seasickness, hypothermia, fatigue, and other crucial health issues, along with new developments in planning for and managing emergencies and calling for assistance.

Prominent are lessons learned from recent accidents reviewed by US Sailing committees (I served on two of those panels), and from recent tests of safety gear and techniques (I was there, too).

Besides updating so much of the text, we have added many photos to complement the wonderful illustrations by Mark Smith.

Sail safe, sail smart.
