The ASA and CYA standards are very similar. The one difference appears to be a separate catamaran standard, which I will need to secure. The charter company / sailing school is also a cat dealer.

Instructor styles can be quite different. I premise my basic level courses on the welcome I got my my first evaluator, "Welcome to the British Columbia hospitality industry." Firs and foremost the clients / students want as good time. At more advanced levels I am more rigid. But the standard is the standard and I modify what I teach and assess accordingly.
