Sailaway....Neo-cons also espouse an activist/interventionist foreign policy and I think your definition overlooks that most important distinction from traditional conservatives, who advocate either an isolationist or pragmatic foreign policy.

Conservationist....means environmentally active...represented by Green Party and in our "two-party" system leans Democratic.
Conservative...believes in traditional values (free enterprise,personal responsibiity,moral/religious beliefs etc.) and minimal government and strict interpertation of the constitution. Generally votes republican.
I'd also add LIBERTARIAN party... basically says keep gov't out of our lives. Everything is OK if it does not hurt others. Personal freedom and liberty is the paramount value. Private property should not be taxed or regulated. Complete separation of church and state. Generally votes republican.
