The owner removed his repair, and did a better job of fixing it, though he never got a better opinion on what caused it. I asked him to let me have a look before he filled it in again, but he didn't. If the boat was structurally compromised, other than preventing water intrusion, his repair was strictly cosmetic. Out of sight, out of mind, type of thing. Makes sense when you're 20!
Can you post some pictures here?
