+1 for Conanicut. That's what my family has done for many years. We go in late July and early August and trailer our Catalina 22 and rent a house there. Its scenic. Of course everything is busy, but is usually good wind and the water is warm. We deal with the crowds - Jamestown is quiet enough and the ferry to Newport rocks..
