Why not? You might just show him how it is done! It really hard to find PHRF boats that are good in light air and also have fair PHRF ratings. For example, boats like Melges 24''s and J-27''s have good light air performance but they get hammered by their ratings. (When I raced on J-27''s I used to joke about the J-27 owner''s manual containing a section on "Complaining about your PHRF Rating" because J-27 owners seemed to have it down to the same mantra). Mumm 30''s are super light air boats with a pretty fair rating but they are quite expensive.

It seems like you are looking for a slightly older design whose ratings have slid off the PHRF radar screeen. Soverel 33''s are amazing light air boats that seem to be able to sail to their rating in the light stuff. Wavelength 30''s are another boat that seems to slip in under the PHRF radar.
