All very odd, I checked the oil level again and it was where I left it Sunday, about 1/4" below max (looks like had I only taken out about 200ml then it would have been bang on max). Don't know, maybe I had a bit too much oil in there (but not by much) and it just misted that up to the intake which eventually hit the sweet spot for self accelerating behaviour.
Oh well, I think I'll just keep an eye on things and see how it goes.
Maybe make up something you can easily block off the air flow with, a rag, plug, or plate? I have read a CO2 extinguisher may work?
Maybe wear some body armor & a helmet before going below to fix the runaway?
