Re: iPad Charging - 12V vs. Inverter

We never ever charge off the invertor. We do, however, run the genset each morning and night to top the house bank and refreeze the ice and everyone scrambles for an outlet and plugs everything in. Sort of a Pavlov's Dog scenario. Funny.

I do have the cig adapter to charge directly off DC, but rarely need to do so. The most often event is wanting to maintain a charge, when I leave an iPhone or iPad running a GPS program. For example, we use Boat Monitor, which allows me to check my position and persistence line from shore, when I leave a device running aboard. It's way cool and huge piece of mind.

However, the GPS really works the battery, so I will keep it plugged into the DC adapter. The 440 amp/hr house bank doesn't even seem to know its there.

My only remaining concern is those cig style sockets themselves. I've seen so many short out in my lifetime, I always worry they are a fire hazard.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
