Re: Radar signature
The type of reflector with the planes intersecting at right angles (Davis) are best if used in the "catch rain" position but most seem too small to be useful as they are barely bigger than the wavelength being used. A bigger one would be hard to assemble and too heavy but should give much better performance.
So, there is at least one company selling one that is inflatable that seems to be large enough to be useful. Inflate and hoist when needed.
The size issue is why I devised my version made from silver coated ripstop nylon. At 16" diameter, it is considerably bigger than the 12" ones and is actually lighter. It is designed to sort of "pop" open out of its sack and is weighted to always be in optimal orientation. I put all this effort into developing the darn thing making at least 12 versions sewing them on my wife's machine, finally got one I really like and now find that I don't know anybody with a radar to test it.
