When I was at the dock in Miami, I bought a Home Depot unit for $74. Using a small inverted plastic bucket, it mounted in the companion way. It was about two boards tall, I filled the open space around the air con unit with some aluminum foil back rigid insulation. So for less than $100 bucks I had air con on the boat. The unit is now stored in the lazarette for when I need air cond again. The boat is currently on a mooring ball and closed up. I haven't needed the air con unit in the past couple of years. Maybe someday I'll be on a dock again but for the summer that I used it, it worked fine and was a quick install and tear down. It cooled a 40 foot boat just fine.
Later I used the rest of my rigid insulation to line my 22 cu ft refrig.
