Am I Insane? (distressed boat purchase?)

I''m looking at a late 70''s vintage C&C 34. It is priced aggressively and was recently run aground, and has had the keel and the rudder both completely replaced new.

Question is: Am I insane to be considering a boat (a) this old and (b) this distressed? Does the possibility of residual (unseen) damage categorically outweigh the the possibility that it might be ok? I mean I don''t want to be out and have a 35 knoter kick up and have the mast fall over.

Obviously, I''ll get a survey done. My question is, is that just a waste of time? I''ve heard most boat owners run a boat aground at some time. But this boat must have been run hard to have to have the whole keel replaced, right?

Bottom line: Should I look elsewhere?

Thanks for any and all insights. I''m a day sailor and am interested primarily in cruising, but some racing would be nice too.

Jeff.
