Daysails 80-90%, in and out of marina and if the wind completely dies back to the slip. Cruises, mostly during summer when the winds here are flukey, we are lucky to sail 50%. If we are trying to get somewhere I set 3 kts as the point where we fire up the engine or we are going backwards against the current. We live on a narrow pass that routinely has currents of 4+ knots, and it's fairly common to see sailboats with full mains and genoas going backwards, until they pull out the iron gennie. Contrary to popular belief, the San Juans and Gulf Islands are a rotten place for sailing in the summer, don't believe all the articles in the magazines you see, don't waste your time and money coming here, you won't like it, and it rains ALL the time! Honest, really, I wouldn't lie about something like this.
