Living on a Vega
I'm 23 years old and living on a 27 foot Albin Vega on Lake Champlain. It's plenty big for me (I do live alone) and I like the lack of "luxuries". I don't have pressurized water, just foot pumps. I don't have a windlass I just pull up the anchor by hand. I use lights at night to read but just have to run the Westerbeke 13.5 about an hour every few days to keep the batteries charged up. The upgrades I would like are to convert the lights to LED to conserve battery power and I would like a roller furling head sail as I single hand predominately. I plan to take the boat down the Hudson and down the east coast come september-ish. Was worried about it not being big enough but now wonder if I might have been fine on a 25 Cape Dory. Not that I would do anything different if I went back b/c I'm completely content (the understatement of the day) on my little Vega.
