Father's Day related...

Experienced something neat yesterday....

I put the boys on flights to Montreal for the summer yesterday morning (We left the house at 4:30 am for the airport!...having finished packing at 1am ) They have flown lots but its the first time without their older sister (boys are 14, 16, sister is 18) or without a parent. Parents were a wreck....especially the wife....(she is in Canada, I'm here in Georgetown) she was certifiable ..."How could I do this to the boys" , "why did you choose that airline" ..."why did you choose those seats" . "Are you sure they are sitting together"...

They get to Barbados.... I try calling them,.... can't get through. (find out their cell only works in Guyana, not elsewhere ). Two mulatto boys travelling alone (they look much older than they are). I was expecting some kind of third degree from either immigration or customs....not necessarily harassment but at least more than usual interest................Not sure how they would handle that.

I get a phone call, "Mr. M, this is Emily, Sebastien's friend from school, he asks that you go on MSN so you can talk to him"... The buggers had figured out the cell phone thing, went into the lounge (which had wifi) and had gone online with their laptop and asked a friend here to call me!! We chatted online, they got on their next flight and all went well. Mom calmed down...

The 16 year old now says he's ready for a European roadtrip with a few friends...

They gave me a father's day card before we left for the airport with an IOU, apologising for leaving me on father's day.

I could'nt ask for better kids.
