It's been a long time since I replaced the furling line on my Ericson 38. The CT yard at which my mast was stepped did a horrible job, and rigged the boat with a furling line clearly about to part.
I can't remember the technique of sizing the length of braided line in order to properly core it. Could someone point me to a link or provide me with the information?

PS: Check out these three lousy yard-rigging errors:
1. The yard crossed the
port spinnaker halyard OVER the roller furling extrusion and anchored it to
starboard side of the bow pulpit. Of course, I didn't see it until the headsail was 1/4 furled and jammed. Only when I was sorting out the mess did I fully extend the furling line and saw what was buried under the rolled-up line.
2. I repainted the top 1/8th of the mast a few weeks ago, and put masking tape on the wire halyards to prevent them from getting white paint on them. The yard stepped the mast without removing the tape from the halyards.
3. When they unstepped the mast, rather than unscrewing the coaxial connecter female-female S0-23 from the cable running from the VHF radio to the mast through-deck, they CUT IT OFF. Now I have about 2-1/2 inches of stub in a tough spot to replace the connector.
