Actually, depends on whether your in IALA-A or IALA-B. In the use... the returning channel markers kept to port are GREEN. Your statement is only true for half of the navigational world effectively... Again, might want to do a bit more research. While the lights of the ship do not change color, depending on where you sail, the colors of the buoys do.
