All i can say is regardless of if you're superstitious or not... do the name changing ceremony! You can make it a fun event for people in your family, the children, and others at the marina! Besides, i changed mine from Anail Beatha to Black Pearl and never did the ceremony. So far this year, i've broken two stanchions, lost an anchoring light, ran aground hard in a clearly marked channel, and had a massive mechanical failure causing me to back into a rock breakwall at about 5 knots.
Superstition aside... do it, its fun anyway! =)
